Northern dynasties (386-581 A.D)
This fragment is a shoe face in plain silk with embroidered work on a chestnut colored ground. Stitched together to it is a piece of light yellow tabby with floats, which probably served as a lining for the shoe. While apple green, white, yellow ochre and dark brown silk threads are used for various design elements throughout the face, lozenge patterns of 6.4cm (H)* 7.6cm (W) are found on the sides of the shoe. A linear pattern in plain stitch is embroidered along the opening, which employed threads in S-twists. The stitches are quite long, resulting in a slightly wavy pattern. (XZ)
