On September 12th, a group of specialguests visited CNSM. All of the visitors were patchwork artists from different regionsof the United States. Sharing their elaborate patchworks, they had the opportunity to study several pieces of silk relics with greatinterest and to discuss with CNSM members about patterns, designs, meanings and implications, and cultural and historical stories.
Patch-working is an important tradition inthe United States, and reflects a diverse history of craft and re-use. Patchworks are narrative and carry aspecific nostalgia.
CNSM strives to preserve not only the art ofChinese textiles, but international traditions as well.
