Lecture “Turfan Textile Collection in Asian Art Museum, Berlin”in CNSM (2014-04-29)

    On the afternoon of April 4, 2014, Mariachiara Gasparini, PhD Student in Global Art History, makes a speech named “Turfan Textile Collection in Asian Art Museum, Berlin” at Educational Center, CNSM. This speech is based on her PHD dissertation, classifying and organizing the Turfan textile collection in Asian Art Museum, Berlin, Germany, and studying the artistic features of textile motifs.

    During years of 1902-1914, Albert Grünwedel and Albert von le Coq from the Museum of Indian Art, Berlin, have4-time expeditions to Xinjiang. There are 350 pieces/sets of Tufan textiles in the 2012 summer list of International Dunhuang Project, including ghatpot,damask, gauze, cotton, kesi, etc., dating back to 7-14 century, assumed by M.Gasparini. She offers a specific analysis on these types and features which are closely related to the culture of Central Asia and of Buddhism.
