There are various species of wild silkworm, and according to historical literature, utilization of wild silkworm can be found in India, Greece and other ancient civilization regions. However since mulberry silkworm be domesticated in China, silk of bombyx mori (domesticated silkworm) has become beloved queen of fiber because of its supreme quality and culture connotation. Silk has been spread worldwide through the network of Silk Road, making the world a more colorful place, making people more beautiful.

This is a splendid world. The exhibition uses geographical order, introducing the production and usage of silk in different regions, divided into categories of weaving, tie dying and embroidery etc. Some collections can be traced back to as early as 8th century, but most of them are around 20-21th centuries. Coinciding with G20 summit happens in Hangzhou, we received supports from Tokyo National Museum of Japan, National Palace Museum of Korea, Russian National Museum of Oriental Art, Padova Entomological Museum of Italy and Oaxaca Textile Museum of Mexico, combined with our recent collections, presenting this special exhibition. We wish audience from all over the world will obtain more knowledge about silk road and silk art through this exhibition.
